Maddie the Illusionist

Okay so the first major incident when having two kids occurred today. I told Maddie that I was going to take a shower which means don't go outside and if you need me you know where I will be. Usually everything is great when I rinse off really quick and nothing happens. However, today was a different story. I must admit that it isn't all that bad and much worse could have happened and probably will one of these days. I get out of the shower and I am getting dressed and brushing my hair, you know doing all of those normal post-shower activities when Maddie comes waltzing into the bathroom. Very nonchalantly she informs me that she locked her door and now cannot get back in. I looked at her with a very puzzled look and asked her to explain. At this point I am not too concerned and she proceeds to tell me the same thing again. I decided maybe she should show me what is going on. She takes me down the hall to her room and to my dismay her door is closed and locked from the inside. The real question at this point is how does one proceed to accomplish this magical act. Lock the door from the inside and manage to escape to the outside. Maybe Maddie has found her calling, illusionist. Anyway, now I am wondering what in the world we are going to do. Of course, Trey is two hours away and not even close to making the trek back home. So I decide that now instead of just being a stay at home mom that I should add burglary to my repertoire of jobs that entail a stay at home mom. I find an old bobby pin and try to pop the lock and that lead to an old metal hanger both of which leave me in the same state I started in, on the outside of a locked door. Maddie at this point thinks the entire predicament is rather amusing and I venture to inform her that if she ever does this again she will be in major trouble. The only relief I have found at this point is that Mollie is sound asleep in her room. I am thanking the Lord at the fact that she is not locked inside Maddie's room. That would have been the end of all sanity in this house today had that been the case. We eventually call our great friend and pastor, Scott to the rescue. He lives a few miles down the road and always said if we needed anything to give him a call. Needless to say he had no idea that I would call in the favor of popping a bedroom door lock. He comes over and has the same amount of luck I did with the coat hanger and then proceeds to take the knob off. At one point we thought the entire door was going to be a causality of war when I suggest to get the chain saw. Scott actually thought he made the entire situation worse when the lock appeared to be jammed. However, after about 30 min. of trying to "man-handle" the door we finally gain access to the Maddie's toy store/bedroom. After much thanks to Scott, reminders to Maddie to never do this again, I am at a loss as what to do tomorrow when it is time to take a shower.

Mollie wears purple really well!

Wide-eyes!

Believe it or not Maddie took this picture one morning when us girls were just hanging out in bed eating breakfast! I thought it turned out really well. Who knows maybe we have a photographer on our hands. She seems to have the niche.

I inturn took her picture too. We have to share camera flashes at our house becuase we have such flashy smiles...haha!

One week and counting

Wow! The first week home has been a whirlwind. It has gone by so fast I can hardly believe it. My Mom stayed here until Sunday to help out and man I am blessed because it was so nice to have adult conversation and help with Maddie until I got my feet back under me. Now she has been gone for three days and to say the least we have survived. Actually, we are doing great. I can't take the credit though because Mollie is an amazing baby. She is really laid back and low key she only fusses for the staples in life (eat and poop) however tonight she did make some ruckus because she wanted us to come closer to her. We didn't mind because we all felt loved. Also, can I just toot my little Maddie's horn for a minute. I have never met another sister who is so loving in all the world. She is the sweetest and most understanding sister. She wants to help all the time and actually contributes so much. I wouldn't be able to do so much without her. She comes to hold Mollie's hand when she gets her diaper changed, she checks on her all the time and gives me status updates. Not to mention, she has been super patient with me as well as all the other changes in the house. God has blessed me with an amazing baby but has reminded me of the amazing blessing he already gave me 3 years ago. It brings tears to my eyes as I watch the dynamics of our house change and although they are different they are all good. Thank you Jesus for the lives that live under our roof and all that they teach me everyday.

Mom, Me, and Trey - yes I am aware that I look like a big banana in my yellow shirt but at this point it is the only thing comfortable.

My birthday was on Monday and it was a great day. My Mom even drove in to take me to lunch. We ended up talking her into to spending the night. Trey surprised me by inviting some of our friends to dinner and we enjoyed an evening on the town. We have just a few more days before Mollie joins our family...we are all ready to meet her and start the next chapter in the Carlile house.

old...maybe even responsible?

Are we old or what? When I was a kid on Saturdays we used to get up and do chores around the house. It was just a fact of life and to go without being said. Basically we all just did it and knew that when everything was done we could do whatever. So yesterday this is what we found ourselves doing.

8am got up and ate breakfast

8:30 - Maddie and I start cleaning house and Trey begins mowing the yard

10 am - Finish cleaning the house (bathrooms, floor, dust, and glass) the real works

10:30 - Trey still finishing yard and we clean the patio off

11 am - Family time washing cars

12 pm- clean up

Can you believe it? We cleaned house, mowed the yard, washed cars all in just a few hours. The beauty of it all was that we did not have any reason to do this we just did. No company coming over, no major event planned, or not even because the house was a total disaster. So needless to say I was really proud of us and might I add that it looked great! Maddie was an awesome helper too. We couldn't have done it all with her.
