The last few weeks we have taken on a few projects around here. Some have been planned for and others were somewhat spontaneous. I made a big dent in my big summer to-do list which is a huge deal.
First, when we bought our house over three years ago there were three rooms with wallpaper in them. I have never liked the wall paper but it has just been one of those things that we will get rid of it as we can. We covered up the wallpaper in the kitchen almost as soon as we moved in. Then, about a year ago I did out master bathroom. Now, the hall bath has just been sitting around untouched. I guess you could say that it was the least obnoxious of all the wallpaper rooms but nonetheless it was still wallpaper. Feeling adventurous and ready to tackle a project Maddie and I got busy tearing down wallpaper one day. Needless to say, we did not forewarn Trey that we were going to be doing this so he walked into a bombshell when he got home. Luckily, for me he was very supportive offering words of encouragement like "well, I guess it needed to be done sooner or later." I assured him that he would have minimual labor involvement in the project and I would take care of as much as possible.
I wish I had a before picture but I can't seem to find one. Oh well! After we ripped out all the wallpaper, I decided to mud the walls with joint compound. This is the same thing we did to our kitchen three years ago. I really like the texture that it provides on the wall and you can do as little or as much as you want. We let the mud dry for 24 hours and then I sealed it with Kilz. Finally, I was able to slap two coats of paint onto the walls. I decided to use a natural color and it is the same color we have in about 80% of our house. I love the tan color with the napery baseboards. I figure that it matches just about everything and if we ever decide to change color schemes more than likely it will match. The painting was finished in aabout 3 hours. We bought a new light fixture and hardware as well. This was the only area Trey had to help with. Being I have no business or idea what electrical componets are I left that up to him. I ordered a new shower curtain, bathmat, and towels as well. Sadly, the pictures don't include the bath mat or towels because they have been on backorder for three weeks but I did receive news that they finally shipped today. Yeah! They follow the same scheme as the curtain though so you can get the idea. I still have a few things to get to put on the counter and such but you can get the basic idea. I wanted something fun for the girls but not to juvenile so that they could grow with it and not out of it. It was a fun makeover but I am glad now that it is over!
