It all started with acid reflux. Mollie began nursing like a champ. She was a pro and everything was definitely going great. About a week or two into all this again something started going wrong. She would latch on then pop off the entire time during a feeding. I knew she wasn't getting a full feeding and she would scream the whole time. I spent the entire day nursing and when you have a three year old that is not exactly her definition of fun. I called the doctor to see what he thought and he said it sounds like acid reflux. So we got some medicine and waited for things to get better. In the meantime I began pumping and using a bottle to make feedings a little easier. It was without a doubt helping. The medicine started helping and things were getting good and life was filled with a lot less crying which in turn means less stress. I tried nursing some more but it just wasn't going as well as bottle feeding because of the acid reflux. So after a while I made the choice to go to complete pumping so Mollie would still get the "good stuff" but it would be more conducive to life in general. Not to mention Trey was able to help me at nights. I should have thought about that in the beginning. On a side note, I must say I have the best hubby being that he is willing to get up in the early morning to help me out and feed this little bit all the while when he has to go to work everyday. He is so caring.
Back to the story, like I said I have been pumping ever since. Well extra milk starts to add up over a while and I have a nice little stock pile. I made a plan to pump for 5 months and then I could use all the extra milk to feed Mollie for as long as it would last. I was hoping for another month or so. Well, I was showing a friend of mine the extra milk I have in our freezer and she was amazed at how much I really had. I had not put a ton of thought into it but it turns out I must be a genetic mishap. It seems I have the mammary glands of a grown female cow. We are looking into getting an Ag. exemption on our taxes due to the amount of milk produced in this house. A few friends have suggested I sell my milk on ebay. I laughed but then thought that may not be a bad idea. So I checked out ebay and sure enough there is a lady on there who sells breastmilk for $2 per oz. She sells it in packs of 50 oz. for $100. I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I guess the proof is in the pudding when it comes to the saying that people will sell anything and obviously people will buy anything too. I calculated my milk that I had saved and her price to quickly figure out that I have over $2300 worth of milk in our freezer. I rushed to tell Trey my great plan and to my surprise he couldn't stop laughing. Okay, okay I may be a little over zealous about this plan but it is worth a shot, right? JUST KIDDING! I WOULD NEVER DO THAT SO PLEASE DON'T TAKE ME SERIOUSLY. Nonetheless, I have counted up the milk stored in our freezer and I am at 125 full bags of milk. Wohoo! Here is what it looks like for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of pumping.
I still have about 2 more months of pumping so maybe Mollie will have breastmilk longer than I thought. I am looking forward to being done pumping not only so I won't be tied down to a machine but so I can reclaim the last part of my body back from pregnancy. Oh the things we do for our little ones. I wouldn't change this for the world and feel lucky to be able to make so much. I know there are lots out there that it just doesn't work. Thank you Lord for this blessing. Here are a few pictures of what our extra freezer looks like right now. Today I am going to look for a deep freeze so the milk will last longer and we will have more room. Notice the only room in the freezer that isn't taken up by milk is two loafs of bread and two pizzas. HAHA!

Honestly, when I saw that you were going to sell your milk on ebay I got tickled too. So funny. Maybe you can give some to my sister if she doesn't have a lot coming out when she has her baby. :)
That's awesome!! That is a ton of milk. I've never heard of anyone having to buy a seperate freezer for their breast milk. Classic. You do have a helpful hubby. I think it's great that he shares the work load with you.
And I thought I had a lot of milk piled up! I'll have to count my ounces and get back to you - I guarantee that my milk won't add up to $2300 on e-bay!
Wow, you are so lucky! I totally stopped producing milk with Nathan and then with Preston his reflux was so bad that I started supplementing with anti-reflux formula at 2 weeks and then I gave up on nursing. Lucky Mollie!
